Jack reached out to me while planning his trip to California with his girlfriend, Lauren. It was their first time visiting, and he knew it would be a beautiful place to propose. Planning a proposal from across the country in a city you’ve never been in can feel daunting! That’s where I can help. Jack and I came up with the perfect plan and cover story for a Torrey Pines proposal and it couldn’t have gone better!
He told Lauren they were heading out for a casual sunset walk along the trails. When they arrived at our pre-planned overlook, perched above the cliffs with a stunning view, everything lined up perfectly. We had the place all to ourselves and the dreamiest golden light. It was pure magic, and Lauren was definitely surprised!
After she said yes (yay!) we rolled straight into a sunset engagement session exploring the trail and celebrating the start of their new chapter.
How to Propose at Torrey Pines
If you’re dreaming of a proposal that perfectly encapsulates Southern California, Torrey Pines is one of the best spots in San Diego to make it happen. But pulling it off seamlessly takes a little planning.
First, timing is everything. Sunset is ideal here as the cliffs glow, the light on the ocean softens, and the trails start to quiet down. While I can always find secluded spots no matter the day, weekdays are your best bet if you’re hoping for something more private.
Next, location matters. Not all viewpoints are created equal. Some are crowded, some are exposed, and some just don’t hit the same visually. That’s where having a plan (and someone scouting for you) makes a huge difference. For Jack and Lauren, I chose a tucked-away overlook that still delivered those sweeping coastal views without the foot traffic.
And finally, your cover story. Keeping it casual is key. A “sunset walk” is perfect because it feels natural and doesn’t raise suspicion. The goal is to get your partner there without overthinking it, so the moment feels genuine and completely unexpected.
