There’s something about a cliffside proposal that just hits differently. They feel spontaneous, intimate, and a little bit wild. Liam chose Point Dume as the spot to ask Joanna to spend forever with him, and with the Pacific stretching endlessly behind them, it couldn’t have been more perfect. As a Los Angeles proposal photographer, I work closely with my clients to ensure everything goes according to plan. My job doesn’t start with the proposal, it starts weeks ahead. Liam reached out to me while he and Joanna were planning a month-long trip through California. They were visiting from the UK and hadn’t spent much time at the ocean. He knew he wanted a beautiful view for the big moment, and a beach to take engagement photos at after. I knew just the place!
Los Angeles Proposal Locations
There are a lot of great proposal locations inside the city of Los Angeles like Griffith Observatory, Hollywood Bowl Overlook, and Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, to name a few. But if you’re looking for something more quiet and away from the crowds, Point Dume is well worth the drive. Point Dume is one of those places that makes you forget you’re just outside of LA. Tucked along the Malibu coastline, this rugged stretch of beaches offers sweeping ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and the kind of golden light that makes every moment feel cinematic. Whether you’re planning a proposal or just chasing a little quiet, this place delivers every time.
The Surprise Proposal Photoshoot Plan
I don’t just see myself as a proposal photographer. I’m a friend in your corner and your ultimate wingwoman, helping you plan the perfect moment. We decide on the right location and then I send over a detailed plan with a map of where I will be, and where you will go. I always blend in with the environment, for example, I’ll lay out at the beach on a nice day or wear my hiking gear on a trail, waiting for the moment with my camera hidden. Typically it doesn’t matter if you go a little off course, but this particular location has a narrow path. Instead of sitting back while I wait, I stand exactly where you would go and move away when I see you approaching. This ensures you’re in the right spot on the trail and nobody else is standing there to take photos. I pretend I’m taking in the views from the other direction until it’s go-time!
