The day we originally planned to have our sunrise session, I got up at 3:30am and checked the weather. It was exactly what we didn’t want to see; pouring rain and so so much cloud cover. We easily rescheduled, but after tons of messaging back and forth I knew Katy was so excited about our session and I hated to break it to her that we had to postpone it. Just a couple of days later the weather called for perfect conditions at Makapuu, and I happily set my alarm for 3am (and 3:30, and 3:45.. and 4, just incase).
Katy and Justin were married 10 years ago and Katy wanted to surprise Justin with a session for their anniversary during their vacation to Oahu. We got some gorgeous colors during the sunrise, but we all agreed that the most fun part of the session was when they played in the water. Of course the sunrise is beautiful, but my all time favorite time of the day on the island is just after 7am. The blues in the ocean and the sky are so amazing to me during that time. I encourage everyone to think about getting in the water during their session! Whether you just splash around or fully get in the water (as you will see toward the end of this blog) you will have a blast and will have some really fun images to show for it.
After wrapping up our beach sunrise session, Katy said something to me that I will never forget. “Out of all the things we planned for our trip, our photo shoot with you was the thing I was the most excited about!” Talk about making my year!
