Typically, my surprise proposal sessions go like this: I’m “hiding in plain sight” with my camera hidden, the couple arrives at the meeting point, I photograph the proposal – yay! Kyle and Brooklyn went a little off-script, and their proposal and Heisler Park Engagement photos were all the better because of it!
Our original plan was to meet at a lookout in the park. The weekend crowd was even busier than anticipated, so Kyle enacted Plan B. I have photographed hundreds of proposals, so I am always ready for everything and anything. When Kyle started walking, I followed. He planned to find a different spot in the moment, somewhere with fewer people, creating a more intimate moment. After a short walk through the park, he recognized an area and knew exactly where he was. They were standing in the exact spot where they had a picnic date early in their relationship. Away from the crowds and in a place that held special meaning to them, Kyle dropped down on one knee and popped the question! It just goes to show that sometimes Plan B is better than what you originally imagined.
After celebrating together, passersby offered their congratulations and asked to check out the ring (it’s beautiful!), and we started the engagement portion of their photo session.
Engagement Photos at Heisler Park
Heisler Park is a picture-perfect gem along the Laguna Beach coastline. You get a little bit of everything here: Coastal views, palm trees, walking paths, and coves tucked between cliffs. Located in the heart of Laguna Beach, it is the epitome of South Orange County beauty. And it’s one of my favorite places for engagement photos! The light here is gorgeous, especially at sunset, and the beaches below the park are perfect for kicking off your shoes and getting those candid, carefree shots. It’s relaxed, beautiful, and super versatile, basically a dream location for couples who want photos that feel natural and true to them.
