Honolulu Elopement | Meagan + Chris
It sounds cliche to start of by saying, “I don’t even know where to begin with these two” but guys…. I don’t even know where to begin! I loved being part of this day so much. Let’s start with the date: February 29th. Obviously the date is special because it’s a leap year, but it’s also the date Meagan’s great-grandmother got married. Hold your “awwww’s” for the end because it keeps getting better!
Choosing Hawaii for their elopement was a no brainer. Meagan and Chris love to travel, and poke is their meal of choice (holla, my fellow poke obsessed people!). They got engaged at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland (did I mention they are adventure lovers???) and wanted a cliffside element to their location, as well as a Celtic tradition of Handfasting – quite literally tying the knot. I love that they incorporated this, it was different to see it in Hawaii, and something special for them. I loved helping them plan the day all the way from Vermont, and setting them up with some of my favorite vendors who I knew they would love working with.
After months of planning, the big day finally arrived!
Meagan got the best surprise that morning – her family flew in to be there! They all spent the morning together getting ready. I loved the idea of Meagan and Chris getting ready together. The photos of her helping him with the final touches are some of my favorites from the day. (Side note: I love when couples get ready together! It adds such a personal touch to the day and the images. If you are on the fence about doing this for your elopement, I wrote a blog about why I love it! You can ready it here.)
Even though they spent most of the morning together, Meagan didn’t let Chris see the dress so they still got that first look feel before the ceremony. It almost rained at the ceremony location, but it held off and gave us a dramatic feel for the background and led to a colorful sunset.
I can’t help but hear Taylor Swift’s “Lover” every time I look at Meagan and Chris’ gallery. It could be because Meagan and I were both obsessed with the song the entire time we planned their elopement. She even emailed me once saying she was listening to the track while scrolling through my site 😂 It was the sweetest “theme” song for their intimate elopement, so of course I had to have it ready on my phone for their cliffside first dance. Okay, now you can “awww” and maybe even put on “Lover” while you scroll!
